I'M CARING FOR A BABY
For anyone looking after a baby: partner, grandparent, babysitter, childminder, close friend.
The essentials, in four moves
- PUT THE BABY SOMEWHERE SAFE On their back, in their crib. Nothing can happen to them while you calm down.
- STEP AWAY FOR A FEW MINUTES Close the door. Go to another room.
- GET YOURSELF CALM Calming yourself comes before calming the crying. Look in every ten minutes to make sure the baby is safe, without picking them up until you have regained your composure.
- HAND OVER TO SOMEONE Call someone: a relative, a neighbour, a person you trust.
IF THE CRYING BECOMES TOO MUCH
Open the emergency path. It is four screens long.
I'M AT BREAKING POINTEmergency
Tell the parents. Putting a baby down safely and leaving the room is the right thing to do, not a failure.
